Robinson Restaurant Renovation – Hoi An, Vietnam
Located within the Robinson Resort in Hoi An, this renovation transforms the resort’s main restaurant into a more efficient and vibrant dining destination while preserving its strong connection to the surrounding landscape.
The client’s primary objective was to significantly increase the restaurant’s seating capacity without compromising guest comfort or the overall dining experience. T3 Architects approached the challenge by first rethinking the building’s circulation and spatial organization. Through a careful analysis of existing guest and service flows, new access points and clearer circulation routes were introduced, improving the relationship between the restaurant, reception, gardens, pool, and beachfront. This reorganization allowed the dining areas to expand while maintaining an intuitive and comfortable guest experience.
A new accessible beachfront terrace extends the restaurant towards the sea, creating an additional dining area that offers panoramic views of the coastline while strengthening the connection between the building and its tropical surroundings. The intervention maximizes the site’s potential by activating previously underutilized outdoor spaces and enhancing the overall arrival and dining sequence.
The architectural language remains contemporary while drawing inspiration from Hoi An’s rich cultural heritage. The interior design reinterprets traditional local elements through a modern lens, incorporating warm earthy colours, natural materials and handcrafted textures inspired by the city’s historic architecture and nearby fishing villages. Bamboo, woven rattan, timber detailing and references to traditional fishing boats create a subtle narrative rooted in local craftsmanship, giving the restaurant a distinctive sense of place without resorting to literal reproduction.
Rather than simply increasing capacity, the renovation demonstrates how strategic planning and context-driven design can improve operational efficiency while enriching the guest experience. The result is a contemporary hospitality space that celebrates the identity of Hoi An, balancing functionality, comfort and a strong connection to its coastal setting.
